I currently have a Bengal and want a Savannah, dont really care what F generation.
I have been turned down by a breeder in Illinois because of laws about hybrid cats in Iowa. I told him that our Bengal is technically illegal but we got him in Iowa and noone really cares or enforces the law unless there is an attack.
This is what the breeder and my vet said. Its a really dumb law, they allow wolf dogs which are much more dangerous then a hybrid cat. My bengal has never ever bitten me in anger and looks so ferocious sleeping on my pillow with me upside down with his head in my hand.

No reputable breeder will sell to you in Iowa. Who wants to risk having their kitten end up in animal control and euthanized. Say if your savannah accidentally gets out and ends up at the shelter?
I would love to have a serval but they are illegal here.
So I am I so self-centered that I just have to put my animal at risk because I have to have what I want? Think about it.
You may indeed find some equally selfish breeder that will sell to you because of the money.

Yes, Iowa has hybrid cat laws which cover bengals and savannahs.
I got my bengal from a TICA registered breeder in Iowa.
Therefore they obviously dont enforce the law.
It just happens that there arent any Savannah breeders here.
That is why I'm asking for one elsewhere.
I am not self centered, if they enforced the law my vet would have turned me in a long time ago. Instead she looks foward to his visits.

You are the one trying to play Russian rulette with your cat. I am just telling you a breeder standpoint. Just because they don't "enforce" the law, doesn't mean they won't if it ends up at the shelter. It has happened before. Just ask the people that tried to "sneak" f1s savannahs into Denmark.
It is selfish. You can throw obscenities at me if you like but I am telling you like it is and from a breeder's standpoint. There are plenty of people that keep illegal animals in California as well. The ones that suffer are the animals when they get impounded. There are licensed organizations that have to go in and rescue the lucky ones, but others are just euthanized because they have no other resource.
Serengeti's are really pretty cats that look like savannahs but so far, are not considered a "hybrid." There are other options for you. Karen Saurensen of Kingsmark has lovely serengeti cats.

There is been a real movement to appeal this law regarding hybrids in Iowa from what I understand. If you wait a bit, it may change anyway. There are savannah breeders in Iowa as well.

yes, I know about the "Big cat rescue" where the authorities come in to a loving home and think they are "rescueing" an animal like a savannah, then they say they are dangerous. They appear that way because they form a tight bond from their owner and they are just pissed off that they are away from them and locked up in a cage. They deem the entire hibrid population dangerous, all from ignorance. The animal would have been better off in their own home.
