We brought the little guy home 11 days ago, we bought him from a breeder in southern California. Thus far he is a good kitten uses the litter box, drinks plenty of water and is eating well. Not positive on his age as when we bought him the breeder stated he was 10 weeks old but later when I got his birthday he is more like 8 weeks old. Currently he has his own room, that he has everything a kitten needs. We have let him explore some parts of the house(with close supervision) and seems to enjoy the exploration.

My concern is that both myself and my fiancée send time with him, not always at the same time. Will a F3 bond to two people or will he choose one of us? I am not sure who to tell when the kitten has bonded with us. He likes to play more than anything else and it seems that he doesn't mind getting petted but isn't that interested in it. He does purr every now and then. He doesn't really run and hide unless there is a really loud noise and does not cry really at all. I am sure I just need to give him more time and I have tried to contact the breeder for help but sadly after she has not gotten back to me. I want him to be comfortable and become a social/affectionate cat when he grows up. I guess I really do not know the normal behavior of a F3 kitten and just want to put my mind at ease. We love him lots so whatever he becomes he will be very loved :)

PS: when is a good age or how to tell when he can have full run of the house?

Thank you so much everyone for the help
Bradley

Don't worry about the bonding. He sounds as if he's settling in just fine. Cats will pick their preferred choice of person and there's not a whole lot you can do about it. But it doesn't mean he will become a raving maniac with the other person, just that he has a preference. Or maybe he won't. Who can tell!

Eight weeks is a little early to rehome a kitten. Has he had his shots? In this country (UK) we vaccinate at eight weeks and then again at twelve weeks. I'm not sure what the procedure is in the USA. Did he come with vaccination papers?

I wouldn't personally let him have full rein until you are sure he is fully vaccinated, and that also includes making sure you wash up before touching him if you have come into contact with other animals.

And if he is as young as you believe him to be, he is quite likely to get over-excited and have litter accidents if given too much space. He might forget where the litter box is, or simply forget to go and leave an unfortunate 'message' for you somewhere you really don't want to find it!

Unfortunately I have been trying to get the vet paper work since we got him and no luck from the breeder. Breeder stated he had 2 sets of shots but that would be incorrect for his age, so the vet is going to start him over. When we got Bodhi he had worms, mites and now just can back positive for giardia :(. we got the worms and mites taken care of and now giving him medication for the giardia. I am happy to hear your feedback it makes me feel better :). Last night he was around a group of our friends, was not scared at all and he allowed everyone to pick him up with no objections. Thank you so much for the reply :)

No problem, but be careful about his interaction with others until he's fully vaccinated. You just don't know what your friends may be carrying on their clothing or hands. Better safe than sorry. :)

This makes me sad :(
No, breeders aren't supposed to be sending kittens out that young. I think I know where he is from as well but I could be wrong.
Your kitten sounds fine to me. F3s aren't over demonstrative in many cases, some are more than others. He may become that way later but most are all about playing. Keep playing with him and spending time just hanging out with the kitten. Hope all goes well!

Thank you for the feedback it continues to put my mind at ease. I am just glad he is not in that environment now, and we are making sure everything is getting done so he can 100% in no time. I wish I was not so impatient and did more research on breeders in California. Had I, I would have probably gotten one of your F3 girls. But no way I am letting Bodhi go now :), he is our baby. Thanks again for your feedback.

PS I would be happy to let you know where I got him.

Oh, thanks. I have a few highly demonstrative girls that I am surprised I still have? Must be the economy?

He got the kitten from Domestic Wild Cats in Southern California. There has been numerous complaints about their cats regarding the very young age they let them go, "mix-ups", wrong sex of kittens purchased, poor health etc. I know they have been encouraged to change their breeding practice and I hope they will. It is important to pursue TICA or the various breeder directories that are used for advertizing with complaints as it does make a difference. S.... happen, cats get sick, but you have to own up to problems and not just avoid buyers. Honestly is the difference between a good breeder and and a bad one. I had a queen that carried giardia. I had a few kittens pick it up where others would not. I could not make sense of why kittens that never step foot in the soil could get giardia. I had to contact owners and do what it takes to make everyone happy. You can't just not answer the phone and avoid emails forever? I am glad the kitten owners were understanding.

I'm glad that his kitten is adjusting quickly even though he may have been a little young. I am looking at F2 kittens from Avalon Savannahs right now, and we are also considering Halestone and even though it is out of our price range, Drinkwater Savannahs. Does anyone know anything about these breeders? My wife thinks we should just buy a house instead of renting one so we can build an outdoor enclosure and get a Serval, but it seems to be really hit or miss with them as far as their temperament and domestication. - Viperspike
